Read More Because your shower, grout, sink, stovetop, washing machine, and weirdly dusty blinds have all unionized, and their demands are extremely reasonable. I’m the Home and Garden Editor at BuzzFeed, where I write articles that connect readers with the products, ideas, and trends that help make a house feel like home. Not a scary word, necessarily, but the kind of word that starts with, "please look behind the faucet," and ends with you discovering a level of grime you did not emotionally consent to. Luckily, these cleaning products are here to handle the household grossness that tends to lurk in plain sight: hard water stains, mystery sink gunk, dull wood, dusty vents, cloudy glass, crusty grout, pet hair, scuffed walls, and all the other tiny but mighty domestic betrayals that make a place feel a little less fresh than it should. Basically, consider this a care package from your home to itself, curated by you (and me, but I don't need to take any credit). Promising review: "This product works — see the change in our bathroom floor as shown in the attached picture, with the number of applications indicated within each sub-picture. It took us three applications to fully clean up our shower! We sprayed this product after showering, while the floor was still wet, and then waited 24 hours to clean up the residues. One cannot expect immediate results (i.e., within a few hours). Rather, a clean floor takes many days. Your patience will be rewarded, though!" —J.B. Get it from Amazon for $19.99+ (available in two scents). The handle can even help unscrew your vacuum faceplate for easy access. Reviewers also use it to detangle hairbrushes. Promising review: "I bought this to clean the hair from a small round hair brush. The bristles are staggered as opposed to in a row, so I thought cleaning it would be a challenge. I was pleasantly surprised by how this simple tool effectively removed the hair from the brush. It looks brand new now! I'm a 'gadget girl' and this definitely ranks among my top 10 favorites :)" —Farmer Judy Maitland owns these and loves 'em: "I bought a pack of these and love dusting with them! All the dust sticks right on, so you don't end up breathing in all the dust you just tried removing. It's great for baseboards, too!" Promising review: "I rarely review products, but this little sponge literally changed my life! It picks up EVERYthing in one swipe! Hard water marks on your bathroom mirror, no problem! Hair clippings on your sink and counter, one swipe and they are gone! Dusty blinds? Swoosh, swoosh, swipe! And ala-presto ka-bam, like magic, they are perfect and dust-free! I just need one of these for my floors! I love, love, love how the sponge picks up everything, and with a little running water, all the dust, hair, muck, and guck just rinsed away! This will not disappoint! Thank you!" —DayDreamer Get a four-pack from Amazon for $9.99 (available in six color packs and packs of two, four, and eight). Promising review: "This little tool is extremely versatile. It worked extremely well with my peroxide cleaner to restore my grout. It removed gunk in hard-to-reach places and scrubbed off burnt material on pans. I used it on window tracks, and they look new! Best all, it was easy on my hands, which are pretty arthritic." —Clawdy Monet Hope's is a small business based in Missouri that makes cleaning supplies. My colleague Maitland Quitmeyer has this and LOVES it: "I bought this for my white porcelain kitchen sink and I've since texted five people about it, which is really a lot for such a boring grown-up product. It cleans beautifully, but the *best* thing about it is its ability to repel stains after cleaning. You know that thing when you rinse out your coffee cup and the coffee water just lingers in your sink and you have to purposefully rinse it out for two minutes? You don't have to do that — the coffee can't stick to the sink and just goes RIGHT down the drain. Time saved, sink clean — this is really a Virgo dream product right here." Promising review: "I have tried numerous products for my stainless steel sink and appliances. My sink was looking terrible; nothing I used seemed to work. Then I tried this product and WOW, am I impressed. My sink looks like new. My appliances also look great. It's very easy to use and does an excellent job." —Book Worm Get it from Amazon for $11+ (available in two sizes). Promising review: "This polish is AMAZING! I have teak-stained wood kitchen cabinets that have taken a beating over the past many years. I was resigned to the belief that I would have to replace the cabinet doors due to wear and tear, scratches, water stains etc. I discovered this wax on Amazon and decided to give it a try. WOW what a difference. My cabinets look brand new. Other waxes and polishes would work but a day later all the blemishes would bleed through. A week later they would look bad again. This stuff feeds the wood, erases the blemishes and lasts for a long time. It's been weeks since I first applied this wax and my cabinet doors still look great! Try it ... you won't be disappointed!" —RH Promising review: "The holy grail of toilet cleaning. Oh wow! I am so happy with this pumice! It removed all the buildup from my hard water easily and quickly! I was thinking I would have to buy a new toilet and start over, and just try to clean it every day. I've NEVER been so pleased with a product!" —Tasha Get it from Amazon for $13.99+. (available in packs of one or two). Promising review: "Easy to use and easy to clean out hair. Several times a day, we need to clean around our dining table, and this is our go-to tool for sweeping up all the crumbs and other grossness that ends up on the floor. The teeth on the dustpan mean the broom bristles stay super clean, which means even the smallest piece of dirt (a good example is hair) still gets picked up and pushed into the dustpan. I LOVE this set! Get it from Amazon for $25.99+ (available in seven colors). Check out a TikTok of the foaming pink drain cleaner in action. Promising review: "Wow! I don't think I've ever been more excited to use a cleaning product before. Who knew you could get so much satisfaction from a drain cleaner? I could probably make an ASMR video and post it, as it is that satisfying! Even though I had to angle this over my sink drain to avoid the low faucet, it worked perfectly. The foam went down the drain and up through the overflow, bringing lots of black, yucky gunk with it. I have used lots of drain cleaners before, but not one that actually came up through the overflow. I'd never even considered what stuff was in there. It did a great job of cleaning everything out, and it left the sink smelling fresh and clean as well." —Amazon Customer Promising review: "Moved into a new rental with a washer and dryer, and the washer door had some mildew on the seals. This worked like magic. Will def add to cleaning routine. Strong and easy to use. Gel stays where you add it." —Amanda Rodriguez Promising review: "Releases all the built-up fabric softener scum! Have not used a washing machine cleaner tablet like this before and, wow! Really helped release all the interior built-up fabric softener scum! I did two wash cycles in a row due to it being the first time. Photo [editor's note: yes, that's the photo above] is just a few minutes into the second cycle." —Amazon Customer Get it from Amazon for $19.95+ (available in quantities of 24, 48, and 96). Promising review: "Wow! This stuff is great. My sprinklers are on well water (which has a ton of minerals in it). When the sprinklers are on and the wind blows, I end up with hard water spots on my house windows....the spots will not come off with any regular window cleaner. I bought this stuff hoping it would clean the hard water spots off my windows, and it did not disappoint. I just put a dollop on a wet paper towel, rubbed the window, and with very little effort, I could feel the spots dissolving as I wiped in circular motions. This stuff smells great, too! Highly recommend for water spots on glass!" —SoCalShopper The kit comes with one scrubber and two shower and tub lemon foaming Magic Erasers. Promising review: "Wow! What a time saver. Once the magic eraser is wet and you scrub a couple of times on the shower wall, you can feel it start to glide once it cuts through the shower grime. This will definitely be a shower and tub staple for my household!" —Kris Promising review: "These babies have transformed and reformed my slobby life. No toxic stuff. No fumes. Just heavenly cleanliness." —Jimmy Jim Ereeno Get a pack of 40 from Amazon for $42.95. A quick note on how to properly use this: 1) Knead the cleaning gel into a ball. 2) Press the cleaning gel slowly into the keyboard, car vent, or any rugged surface until the cleaning gel touches the bottom. 3) Pull it out. You don't need to let it sit for any period of time; once it makes contact, the dust should come off with the gel. Promising review: "I purchased this product to clean those little spaces in my car filled with random crumbs from my husband and dog hair, and it works amazingly. Picked up everything and didn’t leave a residue. The lemon scent was faint and didn’t overpower the vehicle while I was cleaning it. But this definitely got in all the little nooks and crannies." —Kimberly Promising review: "Moved into this house with what must be over eight years of water scum on the shower glass — enough to make it look frosted. I had a cleaning crew come out to clean the house, and they worked for hours in the bathroom, and still couldn't get that glass clear. I thought I was just going to have to live with it...until I remembered I bought the pink paste! I completely forgot I had it in my utility closet. I began using it, and I couldn't believe it. I'm so excited to continue on and free my bathroom of the remaining watermarks! This product is a must-have." —Abigail Pafford The spray is free of alcohol, ammonia, and harmful phosphates. You can use it to clean any screen, including HDTVs, PC monitors, tablets, laptops, smartphones, and more! Promising review: "A miracle! I've been looking for this product all my life! I have a nice 42-inch smart TV that I hate cleaning. Every product I used left streaks everywhere, so I'd use more and rub and rub...Make sure your screen is cool and spray an ample amount on the cloth provided and smear it everywhere. Pretty colors and a nice, substantial feel. Reasonable price for excellent quality." —Joy T. "A good all-purpose towel. The split fibers make it ideal for cleaning; it leaves no residue behind. Also good for cleaning edges of sneakers." —J. Green My colleague Heather Braga used this and said it worked amazingly well: "There wasn't a lot of ventilation in my apartment bathroom, so the grout used to get gunky and gross-looking from the humidity. I had been battling this specific bathroom grime for weeks and tried a whole array of products to no avail. Finally, I purchased Skylarlife Home Mold and Mildew Remover Gel. The results were outstanding. It’s super simple: put on a pair of gloves and apply the clear gel around your grout. Let it sit for five to six hours (I suggest opening all your windows, it’s got a strong smell), then rinse it off with cold water." Promising review: "Wow! I would give this 10 stars if I could. We've had issues for a few years with the caulking behind the handle of our kitchen faucet turning black from mildew. We've scrubbed with what seems like a million different products, with no luck. We were actually just talking about ripping out the caulking and doing a total replacement. But my husband saw this online the other day and decided to order it. Almost immediately, when he applied it, you could see it was starting to work. We left it on overnight, and the black is COMPLETELY GONE! It's incredible. 1,000% worth the (small) investment." —Nicole D. Promising review: "This is a great product. I have breathing problems and can’t have scents, and these are fragrance-free and work great. House smells clean, not perfumed." —Steelerfan "This cleaner surprised me in the best way. And it kept mold away. Usually, when I clean it, it comes back so soon. Smells strong, but obviously, it's what's needed to kill the mold. Works like a charm. No scrub either, just have to rinse off the next day. Super quick results." —SL Get a pack of two from Amazon for $25.98+ (available in three sizes).
