A "star spangled spanner in the works", is how Metro describes President Trump's threat to withdraw the United States from Nato. The Daily Telegraph leads on its exclusive interview with Trump in which he calls the alliance a "paper tiger". The Guardian says the threats are some of his "most determined to date" - and have left Nato facing the worst crisis in its 77-year history. According to the i Paper, there is "despair" among European governments. One diplomat is quoted as saying the situation "plays into Putin's hands".

The Financial Times leads on Sir Keir Starmer's comments that Britain will pivot more closely towards the European Union after what's described as "weeks of taunts from Donald Trump". "Starmer prepares a Brexit betrayal", declares the Daily Mail's editorial. It says the prime minister is using the conflict in the Middle East as a "convenient smokescreen". The Sun offers similar analysis - claiming Sir Keir's position is a "cynical move" to "rejoin the EU by the back door".

The Times reports that Nigel Farage is expected to commit Reform UK to the triple lock on pensions. The policy means state pensions go up in line with inflation, earnings or 2.5% - whichever is highest. The paper says it's a sign the party is looking to "bolster support among older voters".

"Portrait of a broken man", is how the Daily Mail describes its front page photograph of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. The paper says he was seen driving near his new home in Norfolk as it emerged police looking into allegations of misconduct in public office have approached Crown prosecutors for early investigative advice. Mountbatten-Windsor denies any wrongdoing.

The Daily Star says Japan "really cleaned up" at Wembley on Tuesday night - by beating England for the first time, and by their fans tidying up the terraces. Stadium officials were so "swept away" by their efforts they posted footage online of litter being put into bags along with the caption: "thank you". The Star's leader says there is a lot we can learn from the Japanese "and not just on the football pitch".
