HONOLULU (KHON2) — Emergency crews responded to two separate incidents on Oahu on Saturday afternoon, leaving multiple people injured after an apparent explosion and a near-drowning at Magic Island.

Several people were injured after an apparent explosion at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

One official told KHON2 that it was a result of an electrical incident. Seven people were injured.

Honolulu EMS responded shortly after 4:30 p.m. At the request of the federal fire department, EMS took a 41-year-old man to the hospital in serious condition for smoke inhalation.

A 26-year-old is in stable condition.

At Magic Island, lifeguards rescued a man who was apparently swept off the rocks and into the ocean.

Honolulu Ocean Safety says the 27-year-old was found unresponsive around 5:15 p.m.

HDOT director warns of more road damage after storm

The man was given CPR and then taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Officials continue to investigate the cause of the explosion.
