Seth Meyers on Monday explained how Donald Trump has turned his back on the “entire purpose of his presidency.” Again.

The main promise Trump campaigned on was bringing energy prices down, noted the “Late Night” host, who aired a montage of Trump repeatedly vowing that lower energy costs under his administration would also bring down the price of other goods.

But with oil prices soaring amid Trump’s war with Iran, Meyers said the president is now “again betraying the centerpiece of his campaign.”

Still, Meyers joked, Trump does have a strategy ― to simply deny it’s happening.

“You can lie about many things in American life,” Meyers said. “But one thing you can’t lie about is gas prices. You know why? Because they’re on giant fucking signs on the side of the road. Everyone sees it.”
