I have one of these systems, and we recently got around to installing it (finally). It was sooo much easier to install than I expected. You simply install these bars onto the wall, and the piece slides into place. Each panel is separate, but several are attached to the same bar, so you can't go completely out of the box with the design, but TBH, I don't think you would want that. You can decide if you want them to be vertical or horizontal and how wide or tall they go. We put ours vertically and just slightly wider than our bed frame, and I love it. I also looove that the material is soft and smooth because my cats aren't drawn to it, meaning they don't claw the living hell out of it (which is an impressive feat).
