GOP Attack Post Crucifies Senate Primary Winner James Talarico For Religious Views

A Republican group resurfaced James Talarico’s stance on God on Tuesday as the Texas Democrat defeated Rep. Jasmine Crockett in a Senate primary. “Meet James Talarico, Texas’ Democrat nominee for U.S. Senate,” wrote the X account Senate Republicans, whose NRSC mission is to keep the GOP majority in the upper chamber. “He thinks ‘God is nonbinary.’” A clip with the text shows Talarico advocating for transgender rights. “God is both masculine and feminine and everything in between,” he said. “God is nonbinary.” Meet James Talarico, Texas’ Democrat nominee for U.S. Senate. He thinks “God is nonbinary.” pic.twitter.com/PTXKT6GdeK The posted clip attempted to trigger some conservatives who might adhere to a strict interpretation of the biblical phrase, “So God created man in his own image,” or cite the repetition of “He” and “Father” in scripture to describe God. Others on the right might object to the idea of God being “nonbinary” ― a gender identity outside of male or female ― because of the term’s association with LGBTQ+ support. Talarico is still awaiting an opponent because Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and incumbent Sen. John Cornyn are headed to a runoff as neither secured enough votes on Tuesday. But whoever wins is likely to go after Talarico’s religious beliefs. Cornyn already has. Talarico, a state representative, has interpreted the Bible as an upholder of abortion rights and said that Christianity “points to the truth” as do other religions.
