“I was her ticket out of a town where she was no longer welcome.”

"She did get a job, quit after 1 year, and later, during the divorce, I found a letter detailing her termination for cause that I’m not exactly clear on and don’t want to know. I don’t hate her, but my life is so much better now. We were together for nearly ten years, and I don’t think I ever really knew who she was until people started to reach out after the divorce. I blindly trusted her without question because I did love her, which is, I guess, where the phrase 'love is blind' comes from."

"According to a cousin who was there, she read his actual date of birth, stopped for a second, looked up at him, gave a smile that said 'I've been beaten,' and signed where she needed to. They were happily married til death parted them in their 80s, and she outlived him for about a year (the worst year of her life, I'd wager)."

"I’m a little bitter, especially because she feels entitled to child support from me, after financially supporting her, our kids, and paying down her student debt for years. I had no idea who I was marrying, or sleeping with. I had every opportunity to put the brakes on, and chose to pour the beers.

Lesson: take your time getting to know someone, and their family, well before moving forward with them, it can very severely impact your life and others, too."
