A member of the Secret Service detail assigned to Vice President JD Vance is on leave and under internal review after information about the second family’s extravagant use of government helicopters was leaked to the media. “A member of the Vice Presidential Protective Division is the subject of an administrative investigation, and potential criminal inquiry, involving allegations of compromising operational and information security,” U.S. Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi told HuffPost in a statement. “While we will not comment on the specifics of this matter, one principle is unequivocal: any conduct that potentially threatens the safety of a protectee will not be tolerated.” The person in question is suspected of tipping off MS NOW to what they described as inappropriate and unprecedented use of government resources by the vice president’s family. Among other things, that reportedly included enlisting Marine Two to fly one of Vance’s sons to a golf lesson. The helicopter costs taxpayers $16,000 to $24,600 an hour to run. Prior second families would have typically undertaken such travel in an SUV. While that trip was ultimately scuttled due to bad weather, other last-minute helicopter rides were not. According to MS NOW, the second family has also been using Marine Two to go house hunting in the suburbs, and asks the Secret Service to accommodate constantly shifting plans. “They change everything,” one of the sources told the outlet. “They don’t stick to their schedules, and that costs shit-tons of taxpayer money.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
