The North Carolina GOP on Monday shared a seemingly run-of-the-mill graphic on X breaking down the reasons to “vote Republican” in November’s midterms.

But there’s just one problem: the state’s Democratic Party shared nearly the same graphic on the platform less than two weeks earlier, and the GOP apparently tweaked it.

In the Dems’ post, the party encourages North Carolinians to vote for their healthcare, gas prices, groceries, paychecks and democracy, among other issues, in the fall. The graphic features a blue background along with a symbolic illustration of a donkey.

The GOP post is just about identical to the earlier one, minus a now red-colored background and a few areas cleaned up around the text.

It’s so close to the Dems’ post that it even kept the donkey in the background.

There’s another notable change, too.

The word “democracy” is replaced by “republic” in the GOP graphic.

HuffPost has reached out to the North Carolina GOP for comment.

The North Carolina Democratic Party, in an email to HuffPost, shared a video going through the various text and illustrative layers of the graphic in Photoshop.

Anderson Clayton — chair of the North Carolina Democratic Party — reacted to the Republicans’ post on X, writing, “and yet still no original thoughts from the NCGOP.”

It’s “incredibly telling that even when they’re copying and pasting other people’s work, North Carolina Republicans can’t pretend to support defending our democracy,” Clayton, in a statement shared to HuffPost, wrote.

“From making our electoral maps the most gerrymandered in the country to enacting new barriers to voting, like closing campus voting sites and attacking Sunday early voting hours, nobody would ever believe the NCGOP supports our democracy,” the statement read.

“Whoever runs their account must have known they’d get called out for plagiarism, but they drew the line at people thinking they cared about upholding our democratic way of life.”

Others on social media teased the GOP for keeping the donkey in the image, with at least one progressive critic accusing the party of being “lazy af” and “just creatively bankrupt.”
