(NewsNation) — A garlic powder sold across Canada has been recalled due to potential bacterial contamination.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued the recall due to concerns that Heavenly Spices garlic powder may have been infected with Bacillus cereus. 

The affected 70-gram containers of garlic powder are marked with the identification number RA-82337. They were sold at Dollarama stores throughout Canada, CFIA said.

The recall is classified as Class 2, indicating a moderate risk that consuming the food may cause short-term or nonlife-threatening health problems, according to the CFIA.

Bacillus cereus causes food poisoning, with symptoms including vomiting, nausea, diarrhea and stomach pain that can last about two days. The bacteria can be found in dairy products, fish, rice and potatoes.

If left untreated, complications from the bacteria can spread throughout the body to different organs, though it is rare.

Those who purchased the affected garlic powder can contact Dollarama for a $2.00 e-gift card as a replacement, a spokesperson for the retailer told CTV News.

The garlic powder recall comes as American shoppers avoid produce, specifically lettuce, amid a growing outbreak of cyclosporiasis.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1,645 people have been sickened by cyclosporiasis, along with 141 hospitalizations across 34 states in the U.S. as a result of the outbreak, which causes severe diarrhea along with other symptoms such as cramps, nausea, fatigue and vomiting.

Taylor Farms previously expanded a voluntary recall of iceberg lettuce products sourced from central Mexico after health officials linked the company's products to the outbreak investigation.

The company said it completed its voluntary recall of iceberg lettuce from central Mexico out of an abundance of caution, based on the initial information provided by health officials. Taylor Fresh Foods added that all other Taylor Farms products, including everything sold under the Taylor Farms brand, remain unaffected.
