Donald Trump was mercilessly trolled on social media after the United States’ World Cup dream ended with a 4-1 defeat in the Round of 16 to Belgium on Monday.

Critics of the president revived one of his most infamous posts from the aftermath of his failed bid to overturn the 2020 election, remixing his Jan. 6, 2021 attack on his then-Vice President Mike Pence for refusing to help overturn his loss to Joe Biden.

On the day that Trump’s supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol, after Pence certified Biden’s victory, the president wrote: “Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution.”

The post was reworked to mock Trump’s highly controversial intervention with FIFA, which resulted in U.S. striker Folarin Balogun’s one-match red-card suspension being lifted ahead of the game but to no avail.
