GOP Strategist Spots How Trump Is Trying To Distract From 'Failure' UFC Event At White House

GOP strategist Susan Del Percio on Saturday stressed that President Donald Trump making America’s 250th birthday about himself isn’t helping him win back supporters who have “already been disheartened” with him. “Even with some of the folks who voted for him — not his core, core supporters but people who supported him and consider themselves even MAGA — are turned off by all of this,” the MS NOW political analyst told “Politics Nation” host Rev. Al Sharpton. She proceeded to take on the UFC’s “Freedom 250” event at the White House on Sunday, an event that falls on Trump’s 80th birthday. “And the fact is, let’s face it, Donald Trump had to agree to signing a bad deal with Iran tomorrow to show — to get his event off of the top line because it’s a failure,” Del Percio said of the president claiming that a deal to end the Iran war will be signed on Sunday. Aside from Trump welcoming the UFC to the White House to host a bloody brawl on the South Lawn, the president has frequently positioned himself next to sports while facing abysmal approval ratings in his second term. The event — sponsored, in part, by Crypto.com — “looks completely tone-deaf to the struggles of the American people” with its “terrible optics,” one political science professor recently told The Hill. (Note: UFC’s parent company is expected to take on the costs of arranging the fight card, not taxpayers.) Some UFC fighters have expressed their displeasure with the event, including flyweight Brandon Royval who likened the fight card to the “Hunger Games” as well as middleweight Sean Strickland, who questioned why he’d want to “hang out with people on the Epstein list” on the South Lawn.
