I cannot stop yelling about how great this season of “The Legend of Vox Machina” is. As a Senior Talent Booker and Producer at BuzzFeed, you can typically catch me flailing about the buzziest TV shows and movies. Director Steven Spielberg returns to the world of science fiction with his first movie in four years, and his first sci-fi movie in nearly two decades. Disclosure Day follows whistleblower Daniel Kellner (Josh O’Connor), a cybersecurity expert who escapes with highly classified information from his job. Now on the run and determined to expose all the alien secrets he’s uncovered, he learns that he must seek out Margaret Fairchild (Emily Blunt), a weather reporter in Kansas City who might be linked to all of this, just like he is. I’m going to be honest, I would say this movie was good, not great. Listen, I love a Spielberg movie. I will watch anything and everything he does, which I think is why I wanted even more out of this one. Again, a great movie theater movie, but not my favorite space movie this year so far (that’s reserved for Project Hail Mary). I will say, Blunt gives my favorite performance. I loved it so much that every time she wasn’t on screen, I kept wishing she was. Based on Carley Fortune's book, Every Summer After, this new series is set over the course of six years and one magical week in Barry's Bay, the quintessential lake town. Season 1 follows Percy (Sadie Soverall) and Sam (Matt Cornett), and their will-they-won't-they love story. The show picks up with Percy suddenly returning to Barry's Bay for a weekend, where she is forced to confront past mistakes, lost love, and more. Will she and Sam be able to find their way back to each other? This show reminds me a lot of Virgin River, The Way Home, and Sweet Magnolias, in that it feels like a warm hug. The cast is great together, especially as the episodes go on, with the season finale arguably the best episode. Also, the music in this show really is a standout. My jaw was on the ground multiple times when a needle drop happened. From Noah Kahan to Ariana Grande to Harry Styles, the use of music in this show is perfection. Now, while I liked Every Summer After, the second book in the universe, One Golden Summer, might be one of my favorite romance books of all time. It’s so deliciously delightful that I cannot wait for this show to hopefully get renewed so we can get an adaptation. Charlie Florek (Michael Bradway) and Alice Everly come home to me. Streaming on Prime Video; new episodes every Wednesday My favorite band of lovable idiots (affectionate) finally returns to me, in an animated show I genuinely think everyone should be watching because it’s the best. Set years after the Chroma Conclave, Vox Machina has separated while they live their lives outside of the group, searching for love, family, and purpose. But this is Vox Machina after all, and soon the call of adventure brings them back together. When a long-slumbering evil awakens to threaten the realm, they must reunite to take on an epic foe. Based on Critical Role's first campaign, The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 marks the penultimate season of this beloved animated series. I have to say, this season is just as good as the previous three, with each episode building and building until we reach so much must-see TV in the back half of the season that I can’t wait to yell about it with everyone. Once again, Critical Role has put so much care into adapting their stories for the animated medium. It’s a love letter to fans. It’s a phenomenal show. I cannot recommend it enough. Directed by Ol Parker and written by Brett Goldstein and Joe Kelly, Office Romance follows Daniel (Goldstein), who falls head-over-heels for his new boss (Jennifer Lopez). Soon, these two workaholics figure out that there might be more to life than just work. They embark on a secret office romance that has them leading with their hearts instead of their heads. I gotta say, Lopez and Goldstein’s press tour is what really got me excited for this movie. Their chemistry off-screen was so infectious. I figured I had to check out what comes through on-screen. Sure enough, Goldstein’s longstanding crush on J.Lo paid off when he cast her in this movie because they were so great together. While their chemistry is fun and perfect in this rom-com, I do need to give a shoutout to Betty Gilpin, who once again steals every scene she’s in. I’ve loved her since GLOW. I think she’s one of the most brilliantly underrated comedic actors working today, so I am so glad she shines in this comedy, too. Also, have a question for me? Then I went and watched the Jaws @ 50 documentary, and seeing what the opening weekend of that movie looked like got me thinking about the movies I would love to travel back in time to see on opening weekend. There are some obvious big nerdy ones I think would be incredible, like Star Wars: A New Hope. It must’ve been mind-blowingly amazing sitting in a theater to watch that movie opening weekend, with no context of what it would lead to. I think Raiders of the Lost Ark would’ve been another epic one to see in theaters. Also, because I am such a Julie Andrews fan, I wish I could go back and see Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music in theaters on opening weekend. I think I truly would’ve been changed in those showings of those movies. Have a question for me, or want to tell me what you’re watching right now, or have a suggestion of what I should watch next?
