Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. ambassador to Greece, gushed over her ribbon-cutting for a new McDonald’s in Athens on Thursday. But many didn’t share her enthusiasm. “An exciting day for Greece!” she chirped with a photo of the ceremony on Instagram. “It was my honor to participate in the ribbon cutting for a brand new McDonald’s at The Mall in Athens, the most technologically advanced McDonald’s in all of Europe! American businesses investing here create jobs and bring American culture – and delicious food – to the Greek people.” A post shared by Kimberly Guilfoyle (@kimberlyguilfoyle) Detractors took issue with just about everything she said. “How is this exciting for Greece 😂😂😂 it’s a McDonald’s opening in a mall chill lady,” one person wrote. “Culture and good food does not equal McDonalds,” another wrote. “Well maybe in Trumpworld.” Someone else stood up for the native cuisine. “Nice! but greeks don’t need help bringing delicious food to the greek people ! they’re pretty good at it and much healthier food!” One commenter thought that Guilfoyle, who used to be engaged to Donald Trump Jr. and was a campaign surrogate and fundraiser for the president, could use the high-tech Mickey D’s as bait. “Maybe President Trump will visit sometime,” someone said. This McDonald’s has a 65-square-meter screen and can serve 1,400 burgers an hour, the Greek outlet Tovima.com reported. Sounds right up Trump’s alley. Guilfoyle saw Trump in March at a White House reception where the world heard him reveal that his pet name for her was Kimber-lay.
