Lara Trump mocked the Met Gala during an interview on Laura Ingraham’s Fox News program, dismissing the celebrity-packed event as a “freak show” before drawing mockery online herself over a joke that invitations to the Trump family had “got lost in the mail.”

Ingraham joked that President Donald Trump “sat home last night; he was crushed that Anna had banned him for sure now.” The remark referenced Anna Wintour, the longtime chair of the Met Gala, who said in 2017 that the president would never again be invited to the event.

“Yeah, he can barely function, I’m sure. This is very devastating to the president,” Lara Trump replied about her father-in-law, sarcastically, before arguing that the event had changed dramatically over the years.

She said the gala was once a “very elegant and kind of regal in some ways affair” but had now “devolved into a bit of a freak show.”

Billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who has been accused of cozying up to the Trump administration in recent years, and his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, were the 2026 event’s honorary chairs and lead sponsors, and attracted criticism over it too.

Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law then took aim at attendees, calling them “likely the biggest group of hypocrites you are ever going to see” who only want to “preach to us” and “show us how morally superior they are.”

She added that the president had not “lost any sleep over it” and insisted that “nobody in our family is very concerned.”

“I’m sure we all got invited. They just got lost in the mail,” she quipped.

Trump did reveal she had watched the red carpet, though, hailing actor Nicole Kidman’s outfit as a favorite.

On X, users had plenty to say about her “lost in the mail” line.

Weird. The President has no problem intervening in the Federal Reserve, so why doesn't he intervene in the USPS to look into this? Oh, because no one really invited them. https://t.co/vhVxAGYj2I

The fascists remain furious that people still do not love them. https://t.co/1z8GGJ3pZH

Meanwhile Trump invited Fox News personalities to the state dinner with King Charles. How was that appropriate? https://t.co/fLRjYVihxc

Actually, it’s because no one likes you. https://t.co/bgHRcILsBD
