UnitedHealthcare on Tuesday said it fired an employee who made sympathetic comments toward the suspect involved in a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Saturday. An employee identified as Alison King uploaded to social media a video in which she reportedly said “aww they missed” in reaction to the suspect’s failed plot against President Trump and other officials. “You know we’re cooked as a country when my first reaction to hearing the news about Trump’s [assassination] attempt was—it was probably fake—I was like, ‘oh, that wasn’t real,’ probably fake,” King reportedly said in the video uploaded to the social platform X by LeftismU. “And the second was ‘aww, they missed? So happy they missed.’ Oh, yeah. That’s sad. That’s when you know we’re cooked,” she added. UnitedHealthcare shared a Tuesday statement condemning her remarks, 18 months after their former CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot in New York. “Violence is never acceptable and any comments that suggest otherwise are in no way consistent with our mission and values,” the company wrote in a Tuesday post on X. “The person who made comments online about Saturday night’s incident at a Washington event where President Trump and many other political leaders were gathered is no longer employed by the company,” it added. King’s LinkedIn account was reportedly taken down after the video went viral. Trump and White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt have slammed online narratives alleging the shooting at the dinner was staged. “It’s very important to us that we get the truth and the facts about this case and any case out there as quickly as possible, to dispel some of that crazy nonsense that you see running rampant online,” Leavitt told reporters at the White House on Monday. She said Trump and Vice President Vance were taken to safety “seconds” after shots were fired at the Washington Hilton and commended the Justice Department and FBI for doing a “good job of disseminating facts about this attempted assassin.” “As far as we’re concerned, [we want] to provide maximum transparency,” she added. “And hopefully people will believe the truth instead of the lies and the conspiracies that so often do go crazy on social media.” Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
