“If you’re nice, I have a corner suite on the 11th floor with a city view that ’just opened up’.”

"Yeah, I’m in the clothing industry... it’s a mess. Some of my customers, who shall remain nameless, will approve a design, have us make 1,000 units... receive the order, and send it back because they want the left chest logo 0.3 inches smaller. And they’ll pay us extra to destroy all 1,000 units to ensure nobody sees the 'incorrect' version... because 0.3 inches will clearly destroy their brand somehow.

The unfortunate part is that, because clothing is so cheap to produce and big brands have such insane margins, they can do this like four times and still make a 50% margin. People need to stop buying T-shirts for $90... it costs like $6 to make it."

"None of us have standardised training; it’s all based on who sees what in the field. As a matter of fact, out of 10 guys, probably only one or two are actually willing to get paid to work with you over the phone. The rest of us have no desire to troubleshoot over the phone. We’d rather reach an inconclusive resolution during troubleshooting that would force a tech service visit."

"As a teenager I used to have to clean and test product from a soft-serve machine. It is tedious and labour-intensive to disassemble, clean and sterilise those machines—maybe an hour of work—and it needs to be done daily. The product becomes E. coli-contaminated quickly, so you’re supposed to test for E. coli daily. It is supposed to be thrown out frequently, maybe every 48 hours, but most places just save it in a container for the next day and pour it back into the machine.

If the person you are looking at doesn’t seem capable of sterilising a large commercial appliance and testing twice a day for E. coli, I would not eat there."

"I work for Culver’s. We break down and clean/sanitise the custard machine and the shake machine every night. This is mostly done by a 16–18-year-old person who probably doesn’t look like they could break down any commercial appliance. Some places have high standards."

"Gloves are mostly to protect me from food rather than to protect the food from me. I wash my hands so much they’re like noticeably worn from it, lol. A lot of people are concerned if they don’t see anyone in food wearing gloves, and it’s always funny to me."
