This week in TV and movie news, Zendaya and Robert Pattinson's new romance movie finally hits theaters, "Paradise" delivers a jaw-dropping Season 2 finale, "Supergirl" has a new trailer, and much more. As a Senior Talent Booker and Producer at BuzzFeed, you can typically catch me flailing about the buzziest TV shows and movies. The first of a few Zendaya and Robert Pattinson collaborations, The Drama follows Emma (Zendaya) and Charlie (Pattinson), who are just happy to be getting married in a few days. However, their relationship is shaken when an unexpected secret comes to light, thus sending their wedding week off the rails. The twist in The Drama, which I won’t spoil here, is really the major plot of the film, even if it has been marketed as a romance movie. The Drama uses its subject matter to deliver audiences dark, sometimes cringe-inducing humor that might make you pause to wonder, “Should I be laughing at that?!” Zendaya and Rob have such good chemistry, it’s no wonder they’ll have starred in three movies together by the time the year has ended: The Drama, The Odyssey, and Dune: Part Three. If there’s one show on TV right now that is constantly surprising me at every turn, it’s Paradise. No other show on TV is doing plot twists and jaw-dropping moments like this show. This week, the Season 2 finale dropped, and the show upended all of my expectations once again. The series follows US Secret Service agent Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown), who seeks to uncover the truth after the president is suddenly murdered. While that’s what Paradise is about without spoiling anything, the show is actually a sci-fi, post-apocalyptic political thriller with so many twists and turns. It’s reminiscent of Lost, where you are tracking multiple storylines and trying to figure out how they all intersect. The cast is also stacked. Led by Sterling, the series also features Julianne Nicholson, Sarah Shahi, James Marsden, Enuka Okuma, Krys Marshall, Nicole Brydon Bloom, Shailene Woodley, Thomas Doherty, and more. Season 1 is perfect, and Season 2 is pretty damn close. The series has already been renewed for a third season, which is slated to be its last with creator Dan Fogelman plotting a three-season arc for the series, so now is the time to catch up if you haven’t yet. Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day) are back in the highly anticipated sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie. In this new film, the brothers meet some new friends, namely Yoshi (Donald Glover), as they join Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) and Toad (Keegan-Michael Key) on an adventure into outer space and across the galaxy. It's there that they face off against Bowser Jr. (Benny Safdie), and they meet Rosalina (Brie Larson). I loved the first movie. It was such a pleasant surprise. While the first movie was great, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie basically forgoes plot to deliver an overstuffed, Easter-egg-filled movie that cares more about how many cameos it can fit in than about story. My favorite thing about this sequel? Getting to watch Brie Larson live out her Nintendo-loving, video game nerd dream by voicing Rosalina. I love her in everything, and watching her really fulfill a childhood dream on this press tour has been so cute. XO, Kitty kicks off Season 3 with Kitty (Anna Cathcart) starting her senior year at K.I.S.S., and she's got a "senior sunset list" of everything she wants to do before her time at school is over. From figuring out where she wants to go to college to hopefully making things official with Min Ho (Sang Heon Lee), Kitty has a lot on her plate. But, don't worry, there's still time for her matchmaking skills to be put to good use, which sometimes can make things a tad chaotic. This season, Lana Condor returns as Lara Jean in her first appearance since the final To All the Boys movie, hopefully to help Kitty sort out her relationship drama and to remind her to follow her heart. This is one of my comfort shows on Netflix, and I flew through this season. It’s nice to have a teen TV show that just has a lot of heart, some drama, and a stellar young cast. You could easily finish this season in one sitting, and then be sitting here like me, wishing you had more. These are some of my favorite things from my FYP, feed, and more: Also, have a question for me? I was almost 6 years old, and I remember going to see it with my mom and a bunch of friends for a classmate's birthday party (sorry, I just don't remember who, LOL). But, I was a huge Mary Poppins kid, and my mom always told me I had a moment in the theater where it must’ve clicked that Queen Clarisse was ALSO Mary Poppins. My love for Julie Andrews has been steadfast ever since, and The Princess Diaries remains one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s even in my Letterboxd four favorite films.
