MS NOW host Lawrence O’Donnell on Tuesday slammed President Donald Trump over his ever-shifting objectives and deadlines regarding the Iran war, arguing that the MAGA leader is “doing a very good job of sounding like the hopeless loser of his own war.“

The “Last Word” host began by arguing Trump announced “his own personal surrender” by telling reporters Tuesday that Iran doesn’t have to make a deal for the U.S. to stop bombing them, despite one of Trump’s first demands in the war being Iran’s “unconditional surrender.”

“And when, much to Donald Trump’s surprise and shock and amazement, Iran did the obvious in closing the Strait of Hormuz and shutting down 20% of the world’s oil shipments ... Trump’s new objective in his war became opening the Strait of Hormuz, that was closed only because of his war,” said O’Donnell.

He continued, “Donald Trump kept threatening Iran with greater and greater versions of what he called obliterating Iran if Iran didn’t open the Strait of Hormuz by a certain deadline, sometimes two days away, sometimes five days away.”

O’Donnell said Trump has “chickened out” of every one of these deadlines, however, only to warn Iran on Monday that if a deal isn’t reached “shortly” and the strait isn’t opened “immediately,” he might bomb the nation’s electrical grid, oil wells and “all desalination plants.”

“So that was yesterday,” he noted. “The Strait of Hormuz has to be opened ‘immediately.’”

O’Donnell went on to argue that Trump declared “unconditional surrender” himself on Tuesday, however, by casting that demand aside, stating the U.S. “will be leaving very soon” and telling countries whose vessels are passing through the strait that they will have to “fend for themselves.”

Trump also said Tuesday that Iran won’t be able to develop a nuclear weapon “for years,” and that a president “like me” will have to deal with it in the future, even though obliterating Iran’s purported weapons program is one of Trump’s central stated goals in launching the war.

O’Donnell said, “OK, so we’ve gone from ‘unconditional surrender’ to ‘Some years from now, another president is going to have to do the same thing and that other president will be just like me, Donald Trump.’ No, Donald, there will not be another president like you.”

The “Last Word” host went on to recall stable U.S.-Iran relations after then-Secretary of State John Kerry negotiated the Iran nuclear deal in 2015, in which they vowed not to develop a nuclear weapon, and slammed Trump for withdrawing from the agreement in 2018.

“The stock market and the price of gas have been in control of Donald Trump’s war from the start,” he said. “And so now with the stock market suffering its worst quarter in four years, Donald Trump is doing a very good job of sounding like the hopeless loser of his own war.“

O’Donnell noted that when Trump was asked Tuesday by CBS News reporter Weijia Jiang about the possibility of removing Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, he admitted, “I don’t ... even think about it. I just know that that’s so deeply buried, it’s going to be hard for anybody.”

O’Donnell concluded, “First, it was an objective of Donald Trump’s war. And then in his surrender, ‘I don’t even think about it.’ That is how a madman wages war in the 21st century.”
