Lauren Boebert Spars With Reporter Who Calls Out Her 'Juvenile Insults'

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) won’t give up on her debunked claim about ICE at airports, and now she’s fighting online with a reporter over it. A fed-up Billy Binion of the outlet Reason slammed Boebert for “chasing attention on social media and lobbing juvenile insults at strangers” like himself. The dustup spilled over into Thursday but started a few days earlier. Boebert, in perhaps a suck-up to President Donald Trump after disagreeing with him on the Epstein files and the Iran war budget, tried to prove that the president’s deployment of ICE agents to air travel hubs was working. In a video post on Monday she said, “So President Trump sends ICE agents to the airports across the country and while the rest of our country has three-plus hour waits ― thanks, Democrats ― Minneapolis airport’s TSA wait time right now is less than five minutes. Called it!” You can’t make this stuff up!!ICE agents show up at airports, and suddenly TSA wait times in Minneapolis drop to less than five minutes!Called it!! 😂😂😂 pic.twitter.com/cpeD9hC45q But news reports attached to a community note said there was no ICE presence at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. An airport official attributed the efficient security lines to “the commitment of the local TSA team.” Binion called out the Colorado Republican for making stuff up. “ICE agents are not at the Minneapolis airport, where TSA lines have been consistently quick,” he wrote on X. “We are living in an episode of Veep.” On Thursday, Boebert responded on X, “I never said they were? Keep trying, tho.” Binion repeated her quote in the video and then wrote, “Once again: ICE agents aren’t in Minneapolis, where wait times were always brief. They didn’t drop. Read your own post back to yourself slowly.” “It’s not your fault. Our schools failed you,” Boebert wrote back. Binion ripped her in return. “I know we’re desensitized to this, but it’s still deeply unserious that many sitting members of Congress spend their taxpayer-funded salaries chasing attention on social media and lobbing juvenile insults at strangers. Embarrassing.” Airports are experiencing long lines amid a congressional standoff over Homeland Security funding. TSA workers have not been paid during the shutdown and many are calling in sick or quitting. Democrats are seeking concessions to rein in immigration enforcement abuse before agreeing on a proposal.
