A 20-year-old woman from Kentucky was arrested early Sunday after police say she drove into a group of pedestrians while she was drunk. According to a police report from the Lexington Police Department, Kaydence Carpenter was arrested around 2:20 a.m. at the corner of Short Street and Mill Street in downtown Lexington. The officers were in the area to respond to a disturbance in a parking lot when they say Kaydence Carpenter was driving with extreme disregard for human life by going over a curb and into a group of pedestrians, striking four people. The injuries to the victims were possibly life-threatening. The officers say Carpenter was driving along Short Street while going in the wrong direction when they finally stopped her. The report says that Kaydence Carpenter was showing signs of intoxication by having watery, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, several emotional signs, and the smell of an intoxicating beverage. When they searched her, they found a fake ID and her valid driver’s license. She was then taken to the Fayette County Detention Center and was given a routine sobriety test. The results of the test showed that Kaydence was intoxicated and was under 21. She was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, five counts of second-degree assault, reckless driving, driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicating beverage, and allowing a person under 21 to be on premises where an alcoholic beverage was sold. An online video appears to show Kaydence Carpenter in action.
