For the second time, a Wichita Jose Pepper’s restaurant has abruptly closed. It first happened in late 2022 when the Jose Pepper’s on the west side closed after a decade in business. Now, the one at the Plazzio development at 13th and Greenwich has closed. A Google listing for the restaurant said it’s temporarily closed, but a voicemail at the restaurant said, “This location has permanently closed.” Former employees of the restaurant, which opened in 2009, posted about it on social media Monday. They are not pleased at the lack of notice, which they did not receive until after the restaurant had its last day in business on Sunday. Like when the Jose Pepper’s on the west side closed, it appears some employees found out when they showed up for work. “Wow Jose Peppers done did it again!!!!” one commenter said. “*WARNING FOUL LANGUAGE*” is how another rant started. No one with the company returned requests for comment. Previously, a Jose Pepper’s representative said the west-side restaurant closed due to poor sales following the pandemic. In its note to employees, the company said it was closing “Due to the lease.”
