State media video from the western city of Hamedan’s main square shows a large crowd reportedly assembled for a ceremony to commemorate ‘five martyrs of the Ramadan War’ before explosions ring out in the distance. The religious singer leading the ceremony begins chanting “Allahu Akbar! [God is great]” and “Death to America! Death to Israel!’ and is also joined by many in the crowd. He also encourages those gathered to ‘never to accept humiliation’ before chanting “Haydar! Haydar!”Haydar is another name for Imam Ali, who was son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad and the first leader, or imam, of Shia Islam, the principal Islamic sect in Iran.
