Authorities are searching for a former employee of the Greeley-Evans School District 6 who is accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a 13-year-old student over the course of several months.

The Greeley Police Department said Brenda Meza, 34, is wanted on multiple felony charges after investigators determined she had continually abused the student. Police said attempts to contact Meza have been unsuccessful.

In a letter sent to families at Franklin Middle School, where Meza had been employed, Principal Dr. Suzette Luster said investigators believe Meza has fled the state to avoid prosecution.

“Student safety and security is always our first priority. We are very sorry if these allegations have negatively impacted our school, staff and students. If your student needs extra support during this time, please reach out to our counseling office,” the letter said in part.

According to the school, Meza was hired in February 2020. During her time at Franklin Middle School, she worked as the school secretary, assisted with club games and coached cross-country. The letter also stated she had previously served as a substitute for one year before being hired.

Police said officers first responded to the 2000 block of 6th Avenue in Greeley on Feb. 12 after receiving a report of sexual abuse. Public records show the address is in the area of Meza’s residence.

Meza was placed on administrative leave the same day the report was made, Feb. 12, and was later terminated from her position on Feb. 25, according to the letter.
