15 Things People Romanticize About Countries That Locals Actually Hate
Images
This post is for the people who say "I should live here!" after travelling to a new country for one week. As a full-time writer at BuzzFeed Canada, I cover all things pop culture and food. "Siësta is definitely romanticized outside of Spain. Not realizing you still have to work the same amount of hours as the rest of the countries where they go 9 to 5." "It's just a big clock tower, look at it for 5 seconds and move on." "There's a taco truck in my area [America] who’s whole theme is Narco people. It's got the mugshots of a dozen or so famous drug dealers and cartel people. "To me, Japan is a pretty place to visit and has an interesting culture, but I wouldn't want to live there because of its deeply rooted issues in society. I like anime a lot but I treat it like a separate instance in regards to Japan. Anime itself romanticizes Japan." "Yeah the islands and Athens are not the be-all end-all of visiting Greece. $500 hotels, packed streets, beaches, and overpriced restaurants. Halkidiki and Crete is where it's at." "They treat poverty like a fucking zoo." "Why don't locals like friendly people?" "There is a line for anyone. Some friendly people here tend to think that they are entitled to cross it, but if you let them know, you'll end up being the negative person." "As a friend used to put it: 'En Colombia, trabajamos como gringos para vivir como Colombianos.' (In Colombia, we work like gringos to live like Colombians)."
