Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) on Tuesday apologized for what was likely the U.S. bombing of an Iranian girls school that killed 175 people. (Watch the video below.) President Donald Trump blamed Iran for the attack on the Shajarah Tayyebeh school in Minab at the start of the war. He later suggested it was Iran, “or somebody else,” because the Tomahawk missile reportedly used is “very generic.” CNN host Kasie Hunt of “The Arena” asked Kennedy why he’s apologizing and admitting it was probably a U.S. “mistake.” “I think it’s the truth,” Kennedy said. “I mean, we’re investigating, but I’m not gonna hide behind that. I think that it was a terrible, terrible mistake. The investigation may prove me wrong; I hope so. The kids are still dead. But I think was a horrible, horrible mistake.” He continued, “I wish it hadn’t happened. I’m sorry it happened. I can assure you it wasn’t intentional. That’s the sort of thing Russia does. We don’t do that. You know, I don’t see any other possible explanation. And when you make a mistake, you ought to admit it. Most people understand no one’s perfect, but I don’t think our men and women who are fighting for us did it intentionally. I’ll never believe that.” Multiple reports, including one that cited U.S. military investigators, implicate the U.S. in the assault on the school, which was next to an Iranian naval base. “There’s no evidence that the Iranians fired anything at the school,” said Fox News national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin, who added that the president “knows” the U.S. was behind it.
