If you love saving money and saving food, then I think you're gonna love these Rubbermaid storage containers that kept some strawberries looking amaze for 10 days. Promising review: "Let's be honest, I was skeptical. My kitchen is already full of unitasker gadgets that promised the world and now live in a dark cupboard. But after throwing away one too many bags of freezer-burned chicken breasts and stale cheese, I decided to take a chance on a basic FoodSaver vacuum sealer. And wow, am I ever glad I did! This isn't some fancy, Bluetooth-connected, space-age appliance. It's a straightforward, incredibly effective machine that does one job and does it perfectly: it removes air from bags. That's it. And it's genius." —Terry P. It also comes with five BPA-free trays that are dishwasher-safe! Promising review: "The cookbook that comes with it has great recipes. It's the first time I've made anything dehydrated, and it came out great. I made thin slices of jerky with my own recipe, and wow, I was impressed. Tasted better than some of the store-bought brands. Clean up was a breeze. And it’s so compact that storing after use made it even more valuable. I recommend for anyone who wants to try and make their own. It’s a great product." —Clint H Get it from Amazon for $49.99 (available in two styles). Just remember to check for a water refill in the attached reservoir every three to five days. It seems to do what it says...grapes, plums, peaches, and strawberries seem to stay fresh forever. I would order again, that's for sure. I have not had to throw anything away since using this item. Before, we never seemed to be able to eat up the fruits and veggies before spoiling; this sure seems to have stopped that issue." —ShopShop9952 Get a four-pack from Amazon for $14.95 (available in nine colors). Promising review: "I absolutely LOVE this bread box. It's not just gorgeous; it's well-made. Our homemade bread stays so fresh inside, it looks lovely on the counter, and the cutting board lid is very handy. This bread box is the best money I've spent on our home this year, and I highly recommend purchasing this for yourself if you bake, or as a gift for friends who love fresh bread." —Sondra G. Milgrim Get it from Amazon for $49.95+ (available in four colors). Buddeez is a small business that creates bread dispensers, drink dispensers, and other containers for the home and kitchen. Promising review: "This is great! It does exactly what it was intended for. I live alone, and I don't quite go through bread often enough before the last quarter section of the loaf starts to go stale. I was originally looking for something to put a loaf of bread in as a shell for my vacuum sealer, that would keep the bread from getting crushed from the pressure. This dispenser solved all of my problems. Thank you!" —DRMcQuaig Get it from Amazon for $15.99+ (available in packs of one or two and in white and red). I actually own one of these bad boys and love that it is a hard-shell case, so that I know my avocado won't get squished in the fridge. It can be a lil' hard at first to get the top off of the base because of the seamless fit, but over time it's gotten a lot simpler for me by using one hand to hold the base and the other to pull off the top from the side. It doesn't stop browning completely, but it definitely slows it down! If you have two small avocado halves, and you've eaten at least half of it, you can get both in one holder. But if you eat larger avocados or tend to eat less than half of one side, I'd recommend having two of them because they are really only built to fit half of an avocado inside. Promising reviews: "I was skeptical, but the avocado saver actually works!! I kept it in the fridge for a few days, and it only had slight browning on the top that was easily scraped off. Glad I don’t need to waste my avocado halves anymore!" —Amazon Customer "This neat little avocado keeper is useful! It really keeps a cut avocado from browning, although I still recommend squirting a bit of fresh lime juice on it before putting your avocado in it. The top fits snugly into the bottom, so I had to insert a thin rounded end of my steak knife into the groove and slightly twist it open, or I wouldn't have been able to do so. Not a problem as long as you're careful not to be too vigorous in inserting the knife blade." —stk Get it from Amazon for $8.49 (also available for lemons). It can store between 12 and 24 ounces of guac and is made from a durable, shatter-proof plastic that is also BPA-free and dishwasher safe. Promising review: “The Guac Loc is absolutely amazing. It does everything it claims. I’ve had guacamole unopened for four days in it, and when I opened it up, it looked as fresh as the day I had made it and, more importantly, tasted just as fresh. This product may be a bit on the pricey side, but if you are a guacamole connoisseur, and make it on a regular basis, and don’t like wasting it, this is a no-brainer. It will save every savory, delectable bite for consumption. I couldn’t recommend this product more.” —Aaron Clark You can also keep it dry and use it to absorb moisture so that your spices, crackers and chips stay dry and crisp. Promising review: "I really dislike waste, particularly food. I had a pound of rock-hard brown sugar left. Then I saw this Brown Sugar Bear and gave it a shot. I soaked as directed, then put it in my brown sugar container. It is now fluffy! Highly recommend!" —D Lee All you have to do is pour your wine in, and then push down on the movable neck until you reach the remaining wine. This will create a seal and push out any remaining oxygen, which is one of the elements that causes wine to spoil. Eto is a small biz based in the UK that creates elegant wine decanters. It works by wetting the rubber cork, sticking it in the bottle, and then using the included pump to suck out all the air remaining in the bottle. When it makes a *click* sound, you know you're done! Promising review: "Having downed a bottle or two in my life, I've always been flummoxed as to how to store the wine afterwards. I'm quite picky, and the taste of 'blown' wine is disgusting. This is the solution. The stoppers fit perfectly (naturally), and the vacuum pump is also perfect. Just pump until you hear the click, and the job is done. Easy to release the pressure and re-enjoy the wine. For the cost of wine, the minor expense of this pump and stopper system pays for itself immediately. In vino veritas!!!" —erik Get a set of two from Amazon for $18.79+ (also available individually or in a set of four, six or eight and in six colors). Formaticum is a small biz that creates storage options for your cheese as well as knives that are built to cut specific cheeses. This paper actually does extend the life of your cheese. We can get at least an extra two weeks plus when we use this paper. Souper Cubes is a family-run small business with a passion for better frozen meal prep and food waste reduction! Plus, their products are BPA-free, dishwasher-safe, and have fill lines on the side of the compartments for half and full cups. Promising review: "LOVE LOVE LOVE. My freezer is so much more organized now. Gone are the days of having to defrost an entire bag of chicken broth for one cup for a recipe. I now have perfectly portioned 1/2-cup and 1-cup blocks ready to go. They fit easily in freezer bags, take up less space, and make me incredibly happy. There was a lot of attention to detail put into the design, and I particularly appreciate the wire inside the rim that holds everything steady — no more worrying about spilling all the liquid on the way to the freezer. Just a fantastic product all around. I purchased this and a cheaper version from another manufacturer at the same time, but returned the other product. This one is definitely worth the added cost." —Kate Get it from Amazon for $21.99 (available in five colors and in packs of two). This set comes with two small bags (8x10 inches), two medium bags (10x12 inches) and two large bags (12x14 inches). In addition to fruits and veggies, they are also multi-use — so you can use it to store snacks, toys or even clothes. Promising review: "I like these bags; the fresh food can 'breathe' and I think they last longer in the fridge. Recommended. Update: these bags have been used for weeks now, and they're excellent." —G. N. Bell My colleague, Natalie Brown, actually tried these out with her strawberries and says: "I put half of my fresh strawberries in the medium-sized container and left the other half in the clamshell container they came in from the store." And the images above are the results from her testing after 10 days! As you can see, the produce saver berry still looks super fresh. BTW, you can see what other items she tested as well as how those containers have been holding up in her Rubbermaid FreshWorks Produce Saver review! Promising review: "After trying any number of other 'stay fresh' containers and bags, I can tell you that nothing beats these. I've had peppers, cucumbers, kale, and more last two weeks or more in these things. They're also safe to put in the top rack of your dishwasher. These come in a variety of sizes, and I'm not ashamed to say I have most of them. The one con is that they are a bit bulky and can fill up your fridge fast. The bigger pro, though, is that I'm no longer throwing my hard-earned money down the garbage disposal because I didn't eat the veggies before they spoiled. Get these! You will not be sorry." —AZ Georgia Get a set of two from Amazon for $22.87. Each pack comes with a wrap in small, medium and large. You can also use it to hold non-food items like keys, utensils or even your headphones! And if you're looking for a banana hanger that's attached to a wire basket for holding other types of fruit, here's a good option for $18.99! Promising review: "If you're into banana hangers, this is the one for you. I like this banana hanger because 1) it has a flat, solid wood base. Other 'bent wire' style bases can wobble. 2) It has a thinner hook, which is easier to feed through the banana bunch, and 3) it's well-made, sturdy, and attractive. Easily holds seven big bananas." —Rickvoo Get it from Amazon for $15.99 (available in two styles). You can also use this to keep tea leaves, flour, nuts, or other dried goods from going stale, too! Promising review: "Works great! High-quality materials. Looks fantastic. I’m planning to buy another larger one in the future as I expand my home coffee bar! One suggestion, though, is that it would be a tiny bit larger to fit an entire small bag of whole coffee. My only complaint about this item is that it comes shipped with labels on the outside of the ceramic, and they’re a PAIN to remove. I had to use Goo Gone to get the sticky residue off." —Christina Get it from Amazon for $30. And check out their storefront for more canister options! Each set comes with four types of containers — 6 Tall (2.5 quarts/2.8 liters), 6 Large (1.8 quarts/2.0 liters), 6 Medium (1.5 quarts/1.6 liters), and 6 Small (0.7 quarts/0.8 liters). They also come with 24 reusable labels! Promising review: "Bought these over two years ago. They have held up very well. They keep food fresher for way longer. Potato chips that usually go stale pretty quickly will keep fresh in these containers for months. I love the fact that they are clear. I can see how much remains. Easy to clean. I love the feel of them; they aren’t hard to grip. And they stack nicely." —L C Get it from Amazon for $29.99+ (available in two colors). They're also reusable and dishwasher safe! I have been storing my onion in one place and there is absolutely no onion smell in my fridge!! I cut off what I need, tuck the rest back in the pouch, and still no odor!! I’ve also used them to cover opened cans, and they work well for that, too! Great little invention!!" —Amazon Customer Get a set of five from Amazon for $17.99 (available in five colors).
