PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 65-year-old Portland man died on Monday afternoon after crashing while skiing on Mt. Bachelor, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office announced. Officials say the crash happened just after 2:15 p.m. on the Wanoga Way Ski Trail, which is located on the eastside of Mt. Bachelor off the Cloudchaser Lift. Authorities arrived on scene and found that the skier, identified as Nigel Young, didn’t have a pulse and wasn’t breathing. Despite resuscitation efforts, Young was pronounced dead just before 3 p.m. “Young had been skiing with three friends, who were ahead of him and did not witness the crash. Young was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, but deputies believe his injuries were not survivable,” DCSO said. The investigation is ongoing. Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
