FRANKLIN (Somerset) – A Burlington County man is facing multiple charges, including sexual assault and kidnapping, after allegedly holding a township woman captive and repeatedly assaulting her over a 12‑hour period earlier this month, authorities said. Walter Robinson, 40, of Edgewater Park, has been charged with sexual assault, kidnapping, strangulation, making terroristic threats, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, according to Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald. Robinson was arrested March 4 at his home following an investigation by Franklin Township police and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office. At about 4:20 p.m. March 3, township police and the prosecutor’s Special Victims Unit responded to a 911 call from a woman reporting a sexual assault. The woman told investigators she was held against her will in her home and repeatedly sexually assaulted by Robinson over a 12‑hour period, the Prosecutor’s Office said. She and Robinson had previously been in a romantic relationship that ended in 2024 but had remained in occasional contact. According to authorities, Robinson told the woman during a phone conversation the night before that he was coming to her home. Although she told him not to, he arrived at about 3 a.m. The woman said Robinson made a sexual advance that she rejected, at which point he retrieved a knife from the home and threatened her life, authorities said. Robinson then allegedly sexually assaulted the woman multiple times under the threat of harm until about 3 p.m., when he left the residence. The woman told investigators she made several unsuccessful attempts to alert neighbors. The following day, members of the Willingboro Township SWAT team executed a search warrant at Robinson’s home, where he was arrested without incident, authorities said. Detectives recovered a knife from the home that matched the description of the weapon used during the assaults, the Prosecutor’s Office said. McDonald thanked the Willingboro Township Police Department, the Edgewater Park Township Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office for assisting in the investigation. Robinson is being held in the Somerset County Jail pending a Superior Court hearing.
