The Furminator deshedding brush and Earth Rated pet wipes might just be my two favorite pet products on the planet. A few things you need to know about chow chows: 1) They are double-coated, like huskies, which means they have a thick undercoat to regulate their temperature. Undercoat = lots of fluff and expensive grooming. 2) They are notoriously stubborn, so I have spoiled my pup to the point of him having very bougie tastes (like, he won't eat kibble without a duck topper). 3) I love him more than anything in the world for teaching me so much about myself and the ups and downs of dog parenting, so hopefully you benefit from some of our favorite picks! I use these wipes every single day. No exaggeration. Look at that floofy butt. Yes, he manages to get poop on it during every potty trip that results in a #2. I was using warm, wet paper towels until I saw a 400-pack of these on sale during Fall Prime Day. THEY ARE SO MUCH BETTER!!!! They are so soft, and now, my puppy barely reacts when I have to wipe his butt, and it is so satisfying seeing all the dirt and poo come off of my buddy's backside and onto the wipe, so I don't have to worry about my rugs or couches being stained later on. 😮💨 PLUS, I use them for eye goop, dirty paws, his beard area, and even his wee-wee if it looks like it needs some extra TLC between baths and grooming appointments. Seriously, get these. Buy the 400 pack. I have a pack in the car, his go-bag, at home, and keep a few in a sandwich bag in my fanny pack. Also, they are thick and a pretty good size, so for booty cleaning, I only need to use 1–3 wipes, depending on how messy. Get a 100-pack from Amazon for $9.98 (available in three scents). It also boasts a teeth-protecting edge guard for when you're not using the brush, and a convenient ejector button to retract the teeth and remove the fur. When I first got my puppy — before he had really grown into the mane and lion-look fluffiness — my best friend told me about The Furminator, a deshedding brush they'd used on their Aussies. Until then, I had only been equipped with the basics: a retractable brush and this scary-looking detangler that my dog definitely did not like (and I never really figured out how to use). Because they are double-coated, most of their fur has to be brushed out or manually removed unless it gets caught on something. The Furminator deshedding brush tackles those patches of undercoat expertly, literally removing swaths of undercoat fur in sheets. Chow chows aren't heavy shedders throughout the year, as it doesn't come out as easily as other dogs (usually in tufts of fur or getting caught on things). But during spring and fall, they blow their coats to prepare for the seasonal transition, which leads to A LOT of fur flying around the house. Because of this, I don't really notice a difference in him shedding less, but I do know that using the Furminator brush weekly seems to make him more comfortable and help with maintaining and/or removing the undercoat growth during those heavy shedding seasons! Get it from Amazon for $31.87+ (available in three sizes). This thing is a miracle worker! Every now and then, my dog wakes me up in the morning by vomiting on the carpet (which he thinks is doing me a favor). I nabbed the Little Green on a discount during Fall Prime Day, and a week later, my puppy threw up SEVEN times after a late dinner and very exciting round of the zoomies throughout the night. It does take a little elbow grease when it comes to scrubbing, but overall, the sprayer and solution soak into the stain. You work at it for a bit, and then simply vacuum up the remnants of the stain and the solution. Depending on the severity of the stain, you might need to make a couple of passes over it before it's fully removed, but this is still way better than using a scrub brush and towel to sop up the mess. Long story short: this portable carpet cleaner removed every single stain, including older stains that I thought had set into the carpet and were a lost cause, and I learned I can use it on my couch from a previous vinegar and baking soda stain! If you have pets and/or children, I seriously recommend adding this portable cleaner to your arsenal. I wish it came with a storage bag because I literally take it to other people's houses to tackle their stains. So satisfying! This is a subscription-based service, but it's absolutely worth it. When I moved, my pup had a difficult time adjusting to me being gone for long stretches of the day and ended up stress-licking his paws, which led to a hot spot and a vet visit. So, the next day, I ordered this camera and a miniature one on Amazon to keep an eye on him. It comes with instructions to get your pet used to the treat-throwing and the sound of the camera rotating around the room when it follows. My pup acclimated pretty quickly to the point where he doesn't notice it most of the time, but is fully aware that it can dispense treats at random times (because you do it via the app). If you decide to use the treat toss, just know it only works with certain treat sizes. I use these duck nuggets and freeze-dried beef liver pieces because they can be tossed without a problem! BTW — it does have two-way audio, and it works pretty well with only a minor lag, but my pup absolutely hates it when I talk to him from the camera and will literally go out of view. I also have the mini camera near the door! Before I had a dog, I had a balcony, and I loved it. I've recently moved and have a balcony again, and not only do I love it, but so does my dog, because if a chow wants to do anything, it's people-watching. So when I knew I was going to have a balcony again, I immediately ordered the magnetic mesh screen door panels that the BuzzFeed team always writes about. I was able to install it myself in about 15 minutes, and it took about 24 hours for my pup to understand he could walk through it alone to get in and out. The balcony is literally his favorite place, now, and if he could be out there all the time, he would. The door seamlessly closes unless he perches his butt in the doorway, which is also the only time a pest has ever gotten in. Literally, a fly or bird has never made their way into my house thanks to this screen, and the balcony door is open at least six hours a day, depending on my schedule, and no matter the weather (see above). Get it from Amazon for $27.99 (available in three colors and other styles). When my bubs got neutered, I ordered this suit just in case the cone didn't work out. Turns out, he couldn't make it up the stairs with the cone on, and it really just got in the way, so I immediately put the suit on him. He actually didn't mind it at all, and it prevented him from messing with his stitches during recovery, and even better, if there was any bleeding, I could simply check the suit for evidence. I really appreciated it because it meant he could sleep in the inflatable donut collar and the suit, and I wouldn't have to worry about him irritating his incision site. Plus, whenever we went out for a walk, it could just be rolled up over his back and attached up there to keep it out of the way! Get it from Amazon for $22.99+ (available in six sizes and 21 colors). THIS, let me say it in bold, THIS BRUSH HERE is quite possibly the most important pet tool I own. It gets everything out of my dog's fur from burrs, thistles, mud, slobber, dirt, and whatever else gets in there! I use it daily, seriously, and it has yet to fail me. My favorite part is being able to click the button, and the fur just peels right off the brush — no digging or struggling with bristles like a regular comb at all. Plus, he loves it! I can literally brush him while he sleeps, no problem. Get it. GET IT NOW. Get it from Amazon for $16.99+ (available in two sizes). While my puppy is only about 72 pounds, he has the bite force of a dog twice his size, so he chews on a lot of things and gets through them quickly. Bully sticks are gone in minutes, and Yak chews become nubs after a couple of weeks, so I needed something that would last and keep him occupied. I found out that my dog sitter had Benebones and it was his favorite toy to play with at her house, fast forward to Christmas: baby's first Benebone. HE LOVES IT. And it takes him a couple of months to wear them down to a point where the company would want me to replace them (spiky ends, lots of wear), but he hasn't bitten through them or broken off any large chunks. Instead of fully replacing it, I got a larger size (the original wishbone was medium) and a different style, so now he has a ring and a fishbone one. He can go back and forth between the different Benebones and chew to his heart's desire without destroying anything he shouldn't or hurting himself. BIG BIG FAN. Also, this is not an edible chew toy — it's flavored and made of nylon, so always supervise your pup during play! Get it from Amazon for $9.19+ (available in three flavors and five sizes). I personally love this broom because my dog loves to bring a stick inside and destroy it into pieces. (He doesn't eat them, so I tolerate the chewing if that's how he wants to entertain himself.) This is all fine and dandy...until suddenly your carpet is a mess of wood chips, twigs, and splinters. But guess what? This broom expertly sweeps up all the broken bits of sticks — even out of a faux-fur rug! Seriously, I recently had my carpets professionally cleaned, and the people who did it complimented the broom, remarking that they actually work very well. And because of said broom, it didn't take too long to remove the sticks, paper, and other chewed-up pieces from the floor before cleaning my carpets! I haven't used the squeegee piece much, but when I did, it was effective in controlling a spill until I was able to get a towel to sop it all up. Get it from Amazon for $31.99+ (available in two styles). I previously had bought smaller towels, so I already knew my pup liked getting toweled down after playing in water, being hosed down, or coming in from the rain or snow. My favorite part about having these towels is that they are his towels, and he knows it. But even better, they fit easily in his go-bag, and they are cheap enough to buy over and over because sometimes in the summer they get filled with burrs or sticks, which can be difficult to remove. The towels are machine-washable, soft, and dry super fast. We recently had a snowstorm, and they were a lifesaver for removing clumps of snow from his legs and getting him dried off each time we came inside. Also, it takes my dog a long time to dry if he gets really wet, so sometimes I just let him walk around or lie with the towel draped over him to soak up all the moisture, and it's lightweight enough that he doesn't mind at all (unless it falls in front of his face, lol)! Get a two-pack from Amazon for $9.86 (also available in a six-pack). So, I bought this tracker years ago during Prime Day, when it was on sale (though the price now seems lower than it was then...), but I had never used it because I found out later that it is subscription-based. Fast forward to now, when I have found a new dog sitter, who just happens to have a bunch of unfenced acreage for the dogs, I wanted to make sure I could keep track of my pup because, as a literal puppy, he would just run off places and come back at his own volition. I've been using it for three weeks now, and am actually obsessed! First of all, it easily attaches to the collar; second, it's waterproof; and third, this thing is pretty smart! I use it to track our walks, and it shows where we've walked, his "favorite" spots, and how far we've gone. You can make a virtual "fence," which alerts you via the app whenever your pet enters and exits a "safe zone" or no-go zone. This has been super convenient when checking in on my pup at the dog sitter's to see where he's been and if he came back (he does). Because it uses GPS tracking, it can update in real time and has no location limitations, so I can check in on him from states away without any lag! It takes a while for the vital signs information to work because your pup has to wear it constantly or at least 12 hours a day for an entire week, but I finally get to see how much my dog sleeps during the day, his heart rate, and his respiratory rate! This, used in tandem with the Furbo pet camera? I feel like the most informed dog mom ever! Get it from Amazon for $48.30+ (in two styles, a smaller size, and a style for cats).
